All of our tours are family-friendly. All ages are welcome; we just ask for a sense of adventure!
WHAT TO WEAR & BRING ON YOUR TOUR
-
Dress for a day in the sun! We recommend light, long-sleeved shirts, layers, sunglasses, and hats. We love hats with chin straps or ties so that we don't have to go fishing for lost hats.
-
Non-slip shoes are always recommended when on a boat.
-
Shark Tooth & Fossil Hunting Tours:
-
Be prepared to get muddy! You may be stepping into ankle- or knee-high water while getting in and out of the boat. Please bring a towel.
-
Non-slip or waterproof shoes are recommended. No flip-flops on a fossil hunt, please. We do recommend bringing a spare pair of shoes for the trip home (those can be flip-flops).
-
Shark tooth & fossil hunting is best as the tide is going out so that you have larger exposed areas to explore. Check the tides here prior to booking.
-
All are welcome to join us on a Shark Tooth & Fossil Hunting Tour, but note that you will be getting in and out of the boat and walking on muddy/slippery/uneven surfaces. If you have limited mobility, you are welcome to come along for the beautiful scenery.
-
At Tooth & Tide Eco Adventures, our expert Captain and guide will be with you every step of the way. We don't just drop guests off, we join you and show you the best spots.
-
-
Sunscreen lotion - always wear sunscreen, even if it appears to be a cloudy day. We request that you bring non-spray sunscreen as sprays can make the boat surfaces slippery. Make sure to apply it before your tour, and reapply as needed.
-
Water or your favorite beverage - alcohol is permitted for guests over 21. Please drink responsibly.
-
Light snacks - please be aware of any wrappers or trash as we don't want to leave anything behind in the water or on shore.
-
Your binoculars or camera! Dolphins and birds can be fast - we suggest shooting video if you are using a camera phone so that you can capture the action!
-
Life jackets are provided for everyone. We can provide an infant life jacket upon request, but we recommend bringing one that both the baby and you are already familiar with.
-
Seasickness medication - we are in very calm protected waters, so sickness is unlikely, but you know yourself best! If you feel that seasickness is a possibility, we urge you to take medication at least 1 hour prior to your trip. Unfortunately, seasickness medication generally does not work if you are already feeling sick.
-
At this time, we are limited to 6 passengers max. If you have a bigger group, please consider multiple tours with us - every tour is different!
-
Gratuities for your guide are always appreciated. If you feel you've experienced our southern hospitality and have had a memorable adventure, a token of gratitude is appreciated.
OUR LOCAL WILDLIFE
The Lowcountry coast is a rich and vibrant ecosystem that's home to a variety of species. You may see American alligators and turtles sunning on the banks of the rivers and creeks. Wading birds such as wood storks, snowy egrets, great blue herons, ibis, and roseate spoonbills can be seen at the water's edge looking for their next meal. Look up in the trees for nests! You may also see swallowtail kites, wood ducks, and bald eagles depending on the season since the Savannah area is a prime spot along the Atlantic Flyway for migratory birds.
Last but not least, look for our most popular residents: Atlantic bottlenose dolphins! These charismatic marine mammals are found year-round in our rivers and creeks. You may see a small group traveling, a large group spread out while hunting, or in the spring, a nursery pod of adults and calves! They are curious animals and may give you a once-in-a-lifetime experience with a close encounter! If this happens, please do not touch or feed the dolphins as it can encourage behavior that is dangerous to the animal -- just let them say hello!
